The book “Dance of Thieves” by Mary E. Pearson is part of a duology with its sister being “Vow of Thieves”. The book contains 528 pages with 62 chapters. “Dance of Thieves” switches point of views between two protagonists, Kazi and Jase.

Kazi and Jase come from two different backgrounds. Kazi is a street thief who serves Queen Jezelia of Venda and Jase is the new Patrei of Tor’s Watch, which is in the land of Hell’s Mouth. Kazi is sent to Hell’s Mouth on a mission from her queen: to find and capture the war criminal Captain Beaufort Illarion for war crimes he committed against her kingdom. In Hell’s Mouth, Kazi encounters Jase without knowing he is the new Patrei. She treats him with disrespect and soon realizes her mistake. After she goes after him, they are both captured by hunters. They both escape a few days later but are stranded in the middle of nowhere and are chained together. They work with one another to survive in the wilderness and sparks start to catch between them. After they return to Tor’s Watch, politics get involved and the lies get more twisted. Kazi tries to keep her goal in mind and vows against getting distracted from her mission, but her feelings for Jase grow day after day. She doesn’t want to hurt him and tries to cut ties, but each interaction brings them closer instead of farther apart. However, push comes to shove and Kazi and Jase face their biggest challenge together.
