On Wednesday, February 29th, the Mill Creek Orchestra participated in the Pre-LGPE Concert. The high school orchestra started at seven pm, while the middle school orchestra concerts were held at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. All three concerts were held at the Mill Creek Theatre.

The purpose of this concert is so the orchestras can be judged for their evaluati on. This evaluation is known as the Pre-LGPE evaluation to see their preparation for their next performance, known as the LGPE. LGPE stands for the chorus’ large group performance evaluation. This LGPE chorus concert will be held next Thursday and Friday at Archer High School in Lawrenceville. The LGPE concert is a very important evolution that judges each chorus with heavy extent. The orchestra concert will contain three pieces of music and a portion of sight reading, where the players read a sheet of music and play the music without ever seeing the sheet of music before. This tests their ability to be able to read a sheet of music and play clearly. The large group performance evaluation (LGPE) is judged by three judges when the orchestra presents their three pieces and sight reading portion. Each performance is giving a score of any of the following based on their evaluation: superior, excellent, good, and poor. Superior is by far the best score, and the Mill Creek orchestra is aiming to get all superiors for all four of their performed pieces from Wednesday.

Our high school consists of three orchestras that were performing on Wednesday night, chamber, philharmonic, and a combined symphonic orchestra.  The chamber orchestra played three level six pieces, while philharmonic played three level four pieces. The combined orchestra played two level three pieces, and one level four piece. It is important to note that the higher the level of the piece requires a higher skill level and higher understanding of pitch and sheet music.  Chamber played the songs “Elegy” by Elgar, “Sinfonie 9” by Mendelssohn, and “The Elements” by Meyer. These pieces are level six pieces, while the level four pieces that philharmonic performed were “To Tame the Raging Rapids” by Balmages, “Furiant” by Borgo, and “Sweet New Moon” by Nishimura. The combined orchestra, symphonic, played “Japanese Lullaby” by Clark, “Battle of Doro Passage” by Griesinger, and “Quinto Quarto Suite” by Issac. These orchestras have been practing and preparing for the Pre-LGPE concert for a while in hopes of scoring all superiors by the end of the night.
