On Monday Jan. 8 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide played in the CFB(college football) Playoff National Championship. The Bulldogs won the game 33-18 after a defensive game that primarily consisted of defense until the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs were national champions for the first time in 41 years.

ESPN recorded that Alabama struck first with a 37 yard field goal kicked by Will Reichard in the first quarter with 9 minutes, 55 seconds left. Then in the second quarter Jack Podlesney kicked a 24 yard field goal with 12:35 left in the second quarter. After that Will Reichard made two more field goals with one being a 45 yard field goal then the other being a 37 yard field goal and the Crimson Tide had a 9-3 lead on the Bulldogs with 7:07 left in the second quarter. Bulldogs kicker Jack Podlesney made a 49 yard field goal with 3:09 left in the second quarter, after the field goal the scoring had ended for the first half and the Crimson Tide had a 9-6 lead going into the half.

Both offenses had struggled in the first half with each drive amounting to almost nothing with Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young going 15 or 26 passing for 206 yards and running back Brian Robinson had seven attempts rushing for 18 yards and tight end Cameron Latu with 70 yards receiving on two catches. The Bulldogs offense led by quarterback Stetson Bennett went 11 of 17 passing for 127 yards with running back Zamir White rushed for 22 yards on five carries and wide receiver George Pickens had 52 yards receiving on only one catch according to the sports site Fansided.

The second half kicked off with Georgia getting the ball back and it was another defensive battle until the Bulldog’s offense had driven down the field and running back Zamir White had a one yard rushing touchdown, with his touchdown being the first of the game, with 1:02 left in the third quarter. Georgia had their first lead of the night with the score being 13-9 going into the fourth quarter.

When Alabama got the ball back the offense drove down the field, and Will Reichard kicked a 21 yard field goal to make the Crimson Tide to be down by only one point with 12:59 left in the fourth quarter with the score being 13-12 with Georgia being on top. After a failed drive by the Bulldogs the Crimson Tide had gotten the ball back and Bryce Young passed a touchdown pass to tight end Cameron Latu for Alabama to reclaim the lead with them being on top 18-13 with 10:14 left in the game. The Bulldogs had two drives that resulted in touchdowns and then the Bulldogs had a 26-18 lead with 3:33 left on the clock.

On a pass near the red zone Alabama quarterback Bryce Young threw an interception to Georgia defensive back Kelee Ringo had returned the interception for 79 yards. After the pick six, the Bulldogs had a 33-18 lead and the game was sealed for the team.
