Gwinnett County, as well as many parts of Georgia, are currently experiencing severe weather. The storms began late Monday night, and have went on throughout the week. On Tuesday, 11Alive stated, “Severe weather is expected in most of Georgia on Tuesday, with the threat of heavy winds and rains starting to develop overnight. Several school districts are preparing for inclement weather by adjusting school schedules on Jan. 9.”

Many districts have closed schools for Tuesday such as those in northeastern Atlanta, and parts of Northern and western Georgia. This weather is also having an effect on air travels, 11Alive explained, “As of 9:20 a.m., there were 12 cancellations out of Hartsfield-Jackson and 12 cancellations into the airport. There were hundreds of delays following the weather.”

Some areas of Gwinnett, Lilburn and Snellville experienced major flooding. In these areas, roads where evacuated and closed for the time being, The Atlanta Journal Constitution explained, “Heavy rains forced the closing Monday of schools and of dozens of roads in Gwinnett — mostly in the Lilburn and Snellville areas. In Lilburn flood waters overturned a school bus and pushed around several others like toys on a bus lot near Parkview High on Cole Drive.”
