On Feb. 4th, Mill Creek’s Hispanic Organization for Promoting Education (HoPe) worked with the Duncan Creek PTA to organize the elementary school’s annual Father/Daughter Dance.

The dance was held at Mill Creek where HoPe members volunteered to decorate and help out at the dance.

From 1:30-4:30 p.m., one group of volunteers blew balloons, organized tables and set up snacks all in preparation for the dance. The second group of volunteers from 4:30-8:30 p.m., manned photo booth stations, handed out snacks to the elementary schoolers, and took photos of the families.

Sophia Gonzalez, 12, who volunteered at the dance, has been a member of HoPe for 4 years, shares her highlight of the entire event. “My favorite part of the dance was helping the fathers who were so eager to document their time at the dance with their daughters. It was really motivating.”

Along with Gonzalez, Natali Montoya, 12, has been in the club for 4 years and this year, she acts as the VP of Service for HoPe, where she is in charge of programming all community service events as well as keeping track of the service hours of students.

When asked about the event Montoya said, “The Father/Daughter dance was so much fun! I loved being able to help out Duncan Creek with our HoPe friends and get to know more about our community at the event.”

Montoya enjoys reaching out to local schools within our cluster to find new opportunities. According to her, HoPe looks to find events that are compatible with the club.

She went on to explain their future plans for HoPe, “To wrap up this year, we have a spring carnival coming up, and a pet supplies drive for a non-profit. Long-term, we’re eager to meet the next batch of legacy leaders to continue the success of this organization.”
