As a part of the 2022-2023 Theatre Season at Fox Theatre, Anastasia the Musical was performed Dec. 6-11. Anastasia is named after the late Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, the youngest daughter to the late Russian Tsar Nikolay Alexandrovich Romanov. In the musical the entire family except for Anastasia is killed in the Bolshevik Revolution in 1918. Anastasia escapes and the musical details her journey to reunite with her grandmother, former Empress of Russia Maria Feodorovna, all while recovering from amnesia and trying to discover who she really is. This musical is a great watch for the whole family with minor language and provocativeness and a generally light-hearted tone. While there are some minor lewd jokes and some dark moments, overall the catchy songs are family friendly and great for all ages.
