Ninth Volleyball County Tournament

Even though Emily Walter had only been a coach for this season, she led her first team to victory in the Gwinnett County volleyball tournament at North Gwinnett High School. The freshman volleyball team matched up against Dacula, Hebron and Archer and came out with the trophy!

This would never have been achieved without the team’s consistent serves and various hits. During the game all of the players attempted to not let a single ball drop.

“They were all working hard to make sure the energy was up and that they played at their best because everyone wanted to win and they showed that on the court,” said Cierce Ferguson, 9.

Hebron, with their outstanding defense, beat them twice before the tournament and then lost against Mill Creek in the semi finals. In all three games they were neck to neck going into a third set! In these games one of our outside hitters Leilani Simons, 9, had many sets from the setter Allyson Witt, 9.

“It felt great and really empowering to finally beat someone who had beaten us twice before and then come back and win against them” said Mary Katherine Herold, 9.

During the team’s third game of the tournament the girls also went into another third set aiming for the win. They fought back and forth continuously but the Hawks won the match but it included an end to their season with a record of 22-3.

“Seeing our team improve so much over the past few months and then winning., it just felt amazing,” said Madison Gettings, 9.
