Gwinnett County Board of Education Chairman, Everton Blair started his campaign for State Superintendent Tuesday, 18. Blair chose not to run for reelection for his position on the Gwinnett County School Board.

The State Superintendent’s job is to oversee K-12 and budgeting state and federal funds.

Blair is the first African-American and first openly LGBTQ+ member on Gwinnett County’s School Board. He had previously taught 12th grade math as well as AP Calculus. He went on to earn his Masters degree from Stanford University. In 2018, he was elected as the youngest Georgia school board chairman.

Blair has been endorsed by Congresswoman Lucy McBath, along with Chairwoman Dr. Tarece Johnson, who worked alongside Blair on the Gwinnett County School Board.
