Yeonmi Park, now living in New York since 2014, is an advocate for victims of trafficking.

In a novel co-written with Maryanne Vollers, North Korean woman Yeonmi Park tells the harrowing story of her childhood. The book starts when she crosses the border into China with the hope of escaping North Korea’s dictatorship but is then kidnapped, along with her mother, and sold into a trafficking ring. In this edge-of-your-seat read, you’ll follow Park through the years as she battles starvation, abuse, even assault, all while trying to remain herself and
eventually gathering the strength to fight and to find her family.

The book is well written, with seemingly no detail left out of Park’s memory. You’ll be taken to faraway places as you join her on a journey of self-discovery healing, all while diving deep into stories of heroics, family, and finally, becoming whole after suffering so much abuse and heartbreak. This book is a must-read; An education that everyone must partake in and immerse themselves in as you find yourself eager to flip to the next page until you find yourself done with the book and aching for more words from Park’s incredible mind.
