PSAT’s stand for Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. These certain type of test are taken by Sophomores & Juniors to help them get an idea of what they need to learn for college and be ready for the SAT.

The PSAT’s can be very beneficial to students when it comes to their education. PSAT’s can give ideas or feedback on what students need to work on in order to be successful. The test main focus is on reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills. Students can check their academic or performance rate and see if their score is eligible for certain colleges that they would like to attend. Students that fail the assessment the first time have a choice of going back and retaking it. According to the Mill Creek High School PSAT page it states that, “help students prepare for the SAT. You can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT.” It also stated that the assessment can, “receive information from colleges when you check “yes” to Student Search Service.”

There is a contest that eleventh grade students are able to compete in, in order to earn scholarships called, “National Merit Scholarship Corporation.” In order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, students need a PSAT score with the top 1% of their state. That means the score will change depending on what your score was and how well others did on the PSAT.  PSAT’s are really beneficial towards students and getting into colleges later on in life.
