In Mill Creek High School, the world of imagination and creativity comes to life in Mrs Holly Adam’s Classroom. She has a passion for sculpture, design and hands-on creativity. She combines technical skills and artistic vision to create a guiding and learning environment. She does this with the complexities of 3D art, such as clay modeling, sculpting, soap carving, Etc. Her instructions encourage students to experiment and find their passion in art as she did. While also learning the core tools and techniques of the subject.
Mrs. Adams Classroom is a warm, interactive room, in which students are comfortable and creative, to think outside the box and defy their standards. Whether using traditional materials, Mrs. Adams brings out the best in every one of her students by allowing them to see their concepts on both paper and in real life.
Mrs Adams has always been a very artistic and creative person. “My parents say I’ve been drawing since before I could walk.” She told us. Mrs Adams used to be more of a 2D type of artist, but since she was in college, at UGA, she has become both a 2D artist, and also a 3D artist.
Being an art teacher comes with its unique sets of challenges, many of which come from the balance between creativity and structure. Mrs. Adams shared, “One of the biggest challenges is getting students to fully engage. Some students sign up for art thinking it will be an easy class, only to realize that it’s called artwork’ for a reason. I work hard to make each project personal and enjoyable, so students are excited to create and express their creativity.” Despite these challenges, Mrs. Adams remains committed to igniting a passion for art in every student.
When asked what inspires her to choose the projects she does with her students, Mrs. Adams shared, “ I first look at the AKS standards for the course and then I consider what I feel would be the most engaging for the students. My goal is for students to want to keep what they create and leave the class with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the creative process.” This thoughtful approach ensures that her students not only learn valuable skills but also develop a lasting connection with their artistic talents.
Mrs. Adams is known for inspiring students through creative and hands-on art projects. When asked about her favorite art project she shared, “In Vis Art Comp I (2D Art) my favorite project is the Grid Portrait because I get to teach students how to realistically draw and open their eyes to something they thought they couldn’t do. For Vis Art Comp II (3D Art) I love teaching the pinch pot animals because they’re all so unique and playful. In my sculpture classes, I love teaching the pottery wheel and encouraging students to make pottery that they use for everyday life. AP 3D is an independent study, so I enjoy the challenge of teaching art at a collegiate level and watching my students grow conceptually and technically.” Through these varied projects, Mrs. Adams continues to show a love for art and personal growth in her students.
Speaking of personal growth, Mrs Adams has a keen eye for recognizing student progress in her art class. As she shares, “The beauty of art is that it is visual, so I can quickly spot students who are progressing and pushing themselves,” this allows her to easily see when her students are improving, Whether it’s through their mastery of new techniques or the creativity they demonstrate in their work. Mrs. Adams creates an environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves and grow. Also, her ability to visually track their work makes her a wonderful mentor in their artistic journey.
Mrs. Adams has been teaching for 16 years. She used to work at Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia. At her old school, she was a 3D art teacher and a jewelry making teacher. Now, she has been teaching 3D art and sculpting at Mill Creek High School.
In every single one of those years of teaching, she has been doing an amazing job at helping students to go above and beyond in their work. She has also been helping them improve their talent in art in many ways. Mrs. Adams is truly an amazing person and teacher. She is always so sweet and helpful when someone needs help with their work or when someone just wants to talk to her.
