Mill Creek’s EPIC Night, which took place on Feb. 27, served as a celebration of student achievements, encouraged creativity and connected the Hawks to the community in a memorable way.
EPIC Night is an event that is held each year and allows community members to learn about Mill Creek’s STEM-certified EPIC program. “The main goal of EPIC night is to show off what the students do and their hard work, so we invite the community in to see all the hard work they have been doing because they do some impressive things,” EPIC teacher Danielle Mutchler, FAC, said.
Community members gathered in the commons as students presented their projects in a science fair format. Some students showcased innovative engineering solutions while others ran interactive STEM stations for visitors. These stations were created with elementary and middle school guests in mind as many younger students enjoyed interacting with the STEM concepts and learning about the future opportunities available for them in EPIC. “[EPIC Night] just reminds us that when you come together using engineering and different subjects like language arts and math, I think everyone gets closer and learns more about each other,” EPIC student Madelyn Foster, 9, said.
Hydroponic planters, Ozobot robots programmed to demonstrate math concepts and renewable powered items for natural disasters were just a few of the many creative projects on display. These projects offered visitors a lens into how students in the program collaborate and connect to soar to great heights. “[EPIC Night] gives a real life perspective of how STEM works in high school and what type of projects they do and how they connect with each other,” EPIC student Nora Cheikho, 9, said.
Without a doubt, EPIC Night brought the Hawks even closer to the community and formed important connections that will not be forgotten. Clearly, the impacts of EPIC Night will continue to encourage students, teachers, parents and community members to connect, create, collaborate and soar together.
