The Lady Hawks enjoyed the state championship playoff last Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, against East Coweta (Indians) at our home court with a big win after a 2-pointer from Ayla Summer, 2, marking the game with Hawks 55 – 41 East Coweta, giving the ticket to 1/8 against the winner of Game 2, Lowndes High School (Lowndes County).
“Our school has played well in this game,” said Larry Johnson, an audience member, said, “even though we have missed some 3-point-ball; bull overall, we’ve played excellently, and [I] hope to hear good news at our next game.”
Starting the game with a great tip-off from Indians; but then the Hawks gained back the position and 2 points from Bella Ragone, 5, helping the Hawks lead with 2-0 Indians. The game was going as both teams scored with lots of 2-pointers and 3-pointers.
In the last quarter of the first half, after having the ball from a failed attack from the Indians, the Lady Hawks captured the ball, with a fast attack, the Indians accidentally made a foul when trying to defend from the attack, allowing Luckiey WIlliams, 30, to captured one more point, stated the first half with Mill Creek 25-17 East Coweta.
In the second half, the Hawks attacked more to the Indians’ court. With good support from Alison Champa, 23, Ragone, 5, easily dominated an inbound throw, giving the Hawks an additional 2 points at the last 1:47 of the third quarter. Until the last 10 seconds of the game, Ragone utilized the mistake pass of the Indians, stole the ball, and ended the third quarter with a lay-up.
After a brief discussion, the Hawks played more effectively with 17 points for the quarter versus 9 points for the Indians. Significantly, after the Free throw opportunity for the Hawks, Hawks 53-41 Indians, the Indians decided to attack the Hawk court; but failed the lay-up when the time board just had eight seconds left, using that opportunity, Williams, 30, decided to launch a fast attack and successfully settled the ball into the ring when the time clock just had one second left, mark the end of the game with Mill Creek 55-41 East Coweta.
After winning Game 1 of the State Championship, the Mill Creek Varsity Girl Basketball team headed to the 1/8 round at Lowndes at 6 p.m., Feb. 21, 2025.
