The theater department performed a reprise show of “John Lennon and Me” on Jan. 31. The show had previously been performed at a competition and won awards, and was being performed again in preparation for Thescon. In the show, Star and Courtney, the main characters, are roommates who form a deep friendship, both of them with diseases, cystic fibrosis and a heart condition respectively. It is a moving play about life, death, power, and love, something reflected across the cast.
“Theatre has impacted me extremely positively and has taught me a lot about myself. I was able to find so many new people to connect with that I probably would have never met if it weren’t for theatre,” Mia Coffey, 12, who has been in theatre since freshman year but has spent her whole life performing, said. She plays Courtney Cambridge, who is one of the two main characters in “John Lennon”, the character who suffers with a heart condition and becomes close friends with Star, learning many life lessons along the way that the audience and actors alike will carry home with them.
“This show has meant more to me than any other performance I have given, the people I get to share the stage with and spend late nights rehearsing are some of the best friends I have ever had. Courtney has taught me that even when life places you in a strange or tough situation that there will always be someone you can lean on and trust, and I will love this character forever,” Coffey said. “The process of this show has been extremely fun and honestly quite exhausting, but I wouldn’t change a single thing.”
