Alston Jackson, also known as AJ, has been described by many as a best friend, leader, and just an overall amazing person to have around. “Any time I’m struggling on a math IP or assignment I’ll call AJ. By the end of the night without a doubt I know we will have it done.” Jeremiah Brown, 10. Jeremiah goes on to express how AJ continually brings happiness and positivity wherever he goes.
In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family or hanging out with friends. AJ expressed that he is a very family oriented guy. “My parents have always been very supportive with football, even helping me with footwork and fundamentals.” AJ, 10, he made it clear that family was important to him and that he is very grateful for them. As a student overall AJ’s teachers have mentioned how he is a very participative student and is a helpful classmate. “He’s always willing to be there, he’s always wanting to learn, and helping others. He’s in the front of the class asking questions everyday. And overall he’s a great student. I would recommend him for anything” Ashley Weber, FAC. AJ mentioned how he enjoys going to school and interactions with his teachers just as much as his friends.
AJ started playing football in 5th grade just to try it out and see what it was like. He didn’t like it at first but soon learned that the sport took hard work and determination to be good. As a freshman AJ started on the JV football team, now as a sophomore he is playing on JV but has also been in more than half of the varsity games. “AJ is a very accountable guy, and he’s always one to hype people up and is a huge motivator for other teammates.” Tyson Murphy, 10. AJ’s teammate Tyson also mentions how the team is united as a family and AJ is a big part of that.
AJ has always wanted to be an engineer and he pictured EPIC as the perfect starting ground to get him there. He also said that he felt being an ambassador would help him personally improve his leadership skills and confidence when presenting. As an EPIC ambassador AJ help’s plan the majority of EPIC’s events like the winter socal and EPIC night. AJ and the rest of the ambassadors plan then create presentations to show the rest of the students the upcoming events. “I think he’s a great student and a great athlete, he’s always willing to help out any of his teachers or his peers.” Morgan Simmons, FAC, went along to describe how AJ is as an EPIC ambassador. She mentioned how well he helps the freshman in EPIC and that his leadership skills are constantly improving compared to last year.
