Amy Carmichael teaches Advanced Placement United States History at Mill Creek High School. Carmichael also coaches cheer at the high school along with one of her closest friends she said, “One of my good friends, Ashley Baker and I both interviewed at mill creek, and were asked if we could coach cheer. We figured it would be fun together.”

Carmichael got her bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education at the University of Georgia. Her involvement and pursuit in school came from home, she says, “I come from a long line of teachers, and I see how both of my parents had such a big impact on their students. I also wanted to be a teacher because I had great teachers growing up.”

Involvement in school throughout life changes when you start teaching, and when school changes itself, Carmichael states, “I think students are dealing with a lot more pressure than back then. The expectations are a lot higher so I felt like maybe it’s a different dynamic between students and teachers now. You’re having to become more empathetic.”

School changes and students change every year. Being impacted by those students and her peers, Carmichael said, “I’ve developed great friendships with my coworkers, and I have been inspired by a lot of my students. I’m proud of how many students have become successful and transitioned into who they are.”
