Jeremy Huckaby, Coach Huck, or Huck, teaches United States Government at Mill Creek High School. Huckaby also coaches Varsity and JV girls basketball. Huckaby went to the University of Georgia and Georgia state. Huckaby graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education.

Huckaby’s thoughts going into teaching after college was the student involvement and influencing young people. He explained, “I enjoy working with young people, and social studies. I also wanted an opportunity to coach basketball.”

As Huckaby became more involved in teenagers’ lives, he became more impacted as a person. He says, “I am more empathetic and understanding to people and their home lives. I understand that you never know what people are going through. I think in some ways it made me a better parent to my own kids, and it has made me more patient as a coach.”

With these types of personal changes through teaching and coaching Huckaby added how he felt his connection with his students has changed over the years he said, “I feel I have a pretty good rapport with students and my players. They all call me Huck now.”

With connections and growing in teaching and in basketball, Huckaby added, “I’m more interested in students being more open to learning than just passing a test. I care about the individual more than the test grade.”
