Joanna Moon, or Sra. Moon, is a foreign language teacher for Spanish. She started working for Mill Creek back in January of 2023 at the beginning of second semester. She used to be a student at Mill Creek and attended Georgia Tech University after her first year of college at the University of Georgia.
She enjoys helping others learn and making learning fun for her students. When asked what inspired her to become a Spanish teacher, Sra. Moon explained, “I really liked working with kids and I also liked Spanish, I was always really good at it, and I wanted to help others learn Spanish.” One of her many ways to make teaching and learning fun for her students is to try and make the experience more engaging. Some ways she does this is assigning games or making students talk with each other about what they’re learning to help one another.
When she was a student at Mill Creek, “I joined a lot of clubs,” Sra. Moon continued, “I joined Beta club, service clubs like National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, and Orchestra Leadership Council.”
A former teacher of hers, Lisi Campos, a Spanish teacher here at Mill Creek, encouraged her to pursue teaching, ” I did not know at that time she planned on being a Spanish teacher. But I’m very proud of her. And I’m excited to have her as a colleague back at Mill Creek.” She went on to explain that she didn’t know at that time Sra. Moon planned on becoming a Spanish teacher and that if she did, she would’ve more than likely given her pointers and maybe practice Spanish a little bit more.
Learning doesn’t just apply to students, “It was more of a learning experience for me, even as I was teaching. So as I was teaching, I was learning more about how students learn and how I can teach something compared to last year. I feel like I’ve grown, “said Sra. Moon.
