On April 22, Mill Creek celebrated our annual prom at the Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. This marks our third consecutive prom event following the cancellation in 2020 due to Covid-19.

The theme, “Secret Garden,” was chosen by the Junior Class Sponsors and the Junior Cabinet and approved by Principal Lane. In preparation for the dance, the decor consisted of leaves and fairy lights. Students matched this theme by dressing in floral gowns and wearing faux flower headpieces.

Esther Aduamah, 12, loved dressing to the theme saying, “I wore a green dress with gold butterflies throughout my hair to match the theme. My makeup and shoes were also gold to lean into a hidden away garden.”

Along with the decorations, there were a multitude of activities that the students could participate in. They could play golf, take pictures at a photo station, and even dance to the DJ music.

Karson Hildreth, 11, said his favorite part about prom were the games. “I liked that there were other things than just the dance…like the cornhole, minigolf and also having a place to sit if needed.”

Joelle Barnes, 12, attended the prom on her birthday and says she was also surprised by the activities offered.

When asked how this prom compared to previous ones she’s attended she said, “For me personally, the last one was not that fun…so compared to last prom, I think this prom was a huge step up. The DJ was good and I enjoyed the decorations and it was overall just a fun time.”

The entire prom lasted from 8-11 p.m. To end the night, students were handed t-shirts commemorating the event.
