High risk threat for powerful tornados and storms issued for the south

Breaking news on CNN weather, a rare high risk threat for powerful tornadoes and severe storms have been issued for the south as of March 17, 2021.

“Powerful tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds threaten parts of the south on wednesday as severe storms take aim at nearly 50 million people,” CNN states

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the risk level for severe storms has been raised to the highest possible level, a 5 out of 5.

“ This is only the 2nd HIGH RISK area issued by the Storm Prediction Center since May 2017,” WoodTV wrote Wednesday morning.

The worst of the severe weather will likely stretch from parts of the lower Mississippi Valley into the southeast later into the night (via CNN)

“More than 11 million people in that region are at a higher risk…,” CNN meteorologist Michael Guy said.

Many schools across the central south have issued a digital learning day, and southeastern schools are expected to follow.
