Orangutans are the fourth most endangered animal in the world.

Borneo Orangutan Jungle School

In 1999, the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Jungle School, a rehabilitation center, was built in Kalimantan, Borneo.

According to the Smithsonian Channel’s YouTube video titled “Orangutan Jungle School: And So It Begins…”, this center rescues orphaned orangutans and spends time teaching them basic life skills for their survival. They eventually let them back in the wild when they’re mature enough to “graduate.”

For Bornean Orangutans, this center is very needed because these animal habitats are rapidly being damaged by industries such as the palm oil industry. According to the Smithsonian Channel’s YouTube video titled “Orangutan Jungle School: And So It Begins…”, many orangutans are also being poached and killed for the bushmeat industry while their babies are being sold in the illegal pet trade market. Because of these factors, orangutans are the fourth most endangered animals on this planet.

This rehabilitation center is just one of the many ways we can help prevent endangered animals like the orangutan from becoming extinct.
