The girls varsity volleyball season came to an end after they played their last game on Tuesday October 22.

The team got to the second round of the playoffs in the Sweet 16 game against Etowah High School. Etowah won 3-0.

Sonya Silecky, 12, said that the Sweet 16 was a tough game.

“The Sweet 16 was an intense game with some ups and downs,” Silecky said. “It was a bummer to lose so early in the playoffs, but we gave it a good fight.”

Earlier in the season, the Lady Hawks broke a losing streak against North Gwinnett High School.

“The most memorable [part of the season] was definitely beating North Gwinnett in the region championship. We have not won region since 2009. We have also lost to North [Gwinnett] in the championship for the last six years, so sweeping them was huge for all of us,” Silecky said.

Silecky said that she felt the season was successful.

“I think we had a pretty good season. We grew as a team on and off the court. We accomplished some great things and always worked hard,” Silecky said.

Silecky said that there were several things that contributed to the team’s successes.

“[The team gave] our all on every point and having a positive attitude. These were two things we focused on as a team since day one. When we did those two things, then we accomplished big things,” Silecky said.
