Holiday Season Brings Art, History, and Fun to Atlanta

Sydney Harris, Staff Writer

Cultural events that celebrate Winter, faith, holiday cheer, and art will roll into Atlanta for all ages, cultures, and interests.

Cultural Events include:

The Christkindl Market at Atlantic Station – The market is a traditional celebration of German culture, food, drinks, and activities, and is the “German American Cultural Foundation’s official Holiday event.” Dates for the Market festivities are Nov. 30 through Dec. 23., and the event will be held at Atlantic Station

Black Nativity – The Black Nativity production was written by Langston Hughes and adapted by Robert John Connor (Dominion Entertainment Group.) The musical will feature a telling of the Christian Nativity Story through an African-American lens, with African American preachers, actors/actresses, deacons, dancers, and singers through a mixture of traditional spiritual singing, gospel, and modern dance. Dates for Black Nativity are Nov. 28 through Dec.9, which will be hosted at the Ferst Center for the Arts.

Shishi Israeli Or Hadash – The Israeli American Council will host a Shabbat dinner to unite Jewish Israeli Americans, visitors, and residents within their religious and ethnic community, featuring Kosher food, Havdalah service, and children’s activities. The date for Shishi Israeli Or Hadash is Dec.15. and will be hosted at the Congregation Or Hadash in Sandy Springs.

Ekal Vidyalaya Atlanta – Sanskriti, a Bollywood Journey – Ekal Vidyalaya is a series of dances and entertainment in Bollywood style hosted by and for the Indian Community, in hopes of both spreading  fun and celebration for all ages, but also to raise money for the creation of schools and education of students, where “$1 supports one school of 30-40 kids for a year” (Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation). Ekal Vidyalaya’s location this year is at Berkmar High School and will start on Dec.1.
