New iOS 12 Security Features

Peyton Oakes

Apple’s latest software, iOS 12, was launched September 17  and helps tighten up security and privacy issues on iPhone’s that customers have been faced with in the past.

Take advantage of stronger passcodes

Instead of using the regular four-digit or six-digit pass code, you can now have a password that can be as long as you want. It can be number and letters, numbers only, or letters only. Just go to Settings> Touch Id & Passcode and then enter your current password. After that, go to Change Passcode and, from the Passcode Options and set a custom numeric code.

Use automated two-factor authentication

This new addition aids in helping confirm that if you login to an app from a new device, that it is legit. When you login into an app from a new device that has two-factor enabled, then you will get a text message to your phone number with a verification to ensure that it is actually you. Go to Settings> Password & Security and then click on Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.

Use safari

The new iOS 12 comes with new additions in their built in web browser to help keep your browsing more private. Safari now protects you from cookies, which help companies track you from site to site across the internet. Also, social widgets used to be able to mask your phone’s unique identity by finding what you like, depending on what you search, but now Apple has blocked all of those by default so you are not targeted by ads you don’t want.

Enable auto updates

The best tip for this is to just keep your phone on auto-update mode. This helps you to keep all your apps updated automatically, instead of you having to update them manually. To turn on automatic updates head to Settings>General>Software Update and make sure it is turned ON.
